In 2023, Tandyr, driving a Lexus ES350, hit National Guard soldier Vadym Bondarenko, 22, at a checkpoint on Bereesteiskyi Prospekt about three minutes before the start of the curfew. Bondarenko died at the scene. Forensic examinations confirmed that Tandyr was intoxicated, exceeded the speed limit and violated the road signs. An examination estimated his speed at 100 km/h and found that he began braking only immediately before the collision.

After the accident, Tandyr refused an intoxication test. During the compulsory collection of biological samples, he attempted to substitute them with water and saliva, which the court regarded as an attempt to falsify the analyses. The court credited three years and five months spent in a pre-trial detention facility, barred him from holding judicial office for ten years, and ordered him to pay 40 million hryvnia in compensation to the victim's family. He remained in custody after the verdict.
